Intel has introduced their 5th Generation Core U Series Processors

Let’s study about intel’s latest U series. They are not for desktop. U series is for mobile computing. It is “14nm” processor and codename is “broadwell”. Consumes less power and run faster. Here are the main benefits of 14nm Intel 5th generation CPUs:

• SOC and platform power reductions. Enable up to 1.5 hours longer battery life on active workloads vs. prior generations.

• Enhancements to graphics architecture, additional execution units, enhanced codec decode support, and support for the latest graphics APIs provide up to 22% better graphics performance compared to previous generations.

• Architectural and design enhancements combined with 14nm process provide up to 4% faster processor performance vs. prior generations.
stunning Visuals

Intel® HD and Intel® Iris™ graphics deliver an eye-popping visual experience and take Intel® Built in Visuals to the next level. With 5th Gen Intel Core processors, you can watch, game, and create like never before.

• Videos come to life in Ultra HD 4k, so users can enjoy amazing and vibrant multimedia experiences on Ultra HD 4k displays, even over Intel® Wireless Display.5 5th Gen Intel Core processors include enhanced new codec decode support for VP8, VP9, and HEVC.

• Mainstream games and apps will run effortlessly with up to 20% better graphics performance than 4th Gen Intel Core processors and support for the latest graphics APIs (DX11.2, DX12 ready).

• Intel Quick Sync Video technology accelerates most video capabilities, allowing users to create and share in real-time and multi-task without interruption.

• 5th Gen Intel Core processors also support graphics programmability features like OpenCL 2.0 so programmers can easily take advantage of the graphics compute capabilities.

Better, more responsive performance

5th Gen Intel Core processors combine the power effi ciency of the new 14nm process with improvements in processor instructions to deliver faster performance. The U series of 5th Gen Intel® Core™ processors supports two cores and up to four threads with Intel® Hyper-Threading Technology (Intel® HT Technology). In addition, Intel® Turbo Boost 2.02 dynamically controls the performance and power of both cores and graphics—boosting performance exactly where and when it is needed and saving energy when it counts.

longer Battery life

Processor power design improvements across CPU, graphics, I/O, and power management, plus the increased power efficiency of Intel’s 14nm manufacturing process, combine to off erusers up to 1.5 hours of additional battery life vs. 4th gen Intel® Core™ processors (U series).

Diverse form factors

5th Gen Intel Core processors enable a diverse portfolio of form factors to meet every lifestyle and work style. From large screen 2-in-1s, sleek Ultrabooks, and traditional clamshell notebooks to All in One PCs and mini desktops, the U series is the flexible solution for mainstream mobile and innovative desktop systems. 5th Gen Intel Core processors with Intel® HD graphics have a 15W thermal design point (TDP) with a configurable TDP (cTDP) down option. This delivers the balanced performance and battery life needed for thin, innovative 2-in-1s in addition to mainstream designs. In contrast, 5th Gen Intel Core processors with Intel Iris graphics have a 28W TDP with cTDP down option. This additional thermal headroom allows the graphics to scale and deliver mainstream discrete-level graphics performance at lower platform TDPs than discrete cards, enabling sleeker designs.

Intel® smart sound technology

Our latest micro-architecture now includes a specialized Digital Signal Processor (DSP) dedicated for audio media playback and voice interaction. This helps to offl oad the main CPU to save platform power while giving new capabilities, for example, waking your system using only your voice or enabling longer battery life while watching a movie. Intel Smart Sound Technology includes:

• Audio Post Processing in the DSP supporting Waves* and DTS* technologies for the best audio experience

• Intel® Wake on Voice (Intel® WOV) that allows the DSP to recognize your distinctive voice and wake the system from Microsoft InstantGo. Intel WOV also saves power while you use your device for work or play since our DSP does work the CPU would normally do.
