HP Pavilion dv9000 series laptop power up but no screen fix – March 22, 2016

HP Pavilion dv9000 series laptop repair – March 22, 2016

Hello, it’s P&T IT BROTHER. Here is a HP Pavilion dv9310ca laptop that we fixed recently. It turns on, but no screen. Many of you might think it is a laptop screen problem, but it was a video chip issue on the motherboard. As your laptop gets old, the solder connection points between motherboard and chips may have cracks. (As your laptop gets hot and cool, solder joints may have cracks) We had to do motherboard reflow.

Here is an old HP Pavilion dv9000 series laptop. It’s got AMD dual-core processor with Nvidia video card.

Here is the problem. When we turn this thing on, it turns on with light indicators, but we see nothing on the screen. Also, we do not hear any hard drive scratching. For us, the culprit was the video chip connection with the motherboard.

Let’s disassemble the machine! 😀

Of course with a black coffee! The weather got cold again…

After removing all screws underneath the laptop, let’s remove the upper control panel.

Then,  let’s remove the keyboard.

We now have access to the motherboard! 😀 😀 😀

We now see the AMD CPU and the NVIDIA VIDEO CHIP!

Heatsink removed… After removing the motherboard, we have performed the motherboard reflow job. (Sorry that we did not include the relflow work here. We will post it later on our blog.)

Here is the AMD Turion 64 X2 processor.

Let’s get close to it…

We applied a new thermal compound for better cooling performance! 🙂

Laptop re-assembled.

It work again !!! 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 James will be happy now !
