P&T Custom Desktop Build – September 10, 2015

Custom PC Build for P&T Office โ€“ September 10, 2015

ย
Hello ! Yesterday, ย we decided to build a customized desktop for work. (and to play game sometimes) ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ Purchased all computer parts in 1 hour, and spent 2 hours to build the desktop computer. (taking pictures took 1 hour!) Here we share the process of building custom desktop. The purpose of the desktop is for work, saving data, and gaming. We tried to build it within our budget. ($500 โ€“ $700 CAD)

Computer specs: AMD FX-6300 Six-Core Processor, Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB DDR3 1866MHz, ย Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3 AM3+ Motherboard, Gigabyte Geforce GTX 750 1GB GDDR5 Video Card, Western Digital 500GB Enterprise HDD, Cooler Master Elite 550 Ver.2 PSU, Cooler Master Hyper T2 Heatsink & Cooling Fan, LG DVD Drive, Antec Mini-Tower Case

Letโ€™sย look at all the computer parts first ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

This is the computer case. We chose something small and cheap. Since the computer is for office use, we purchased the cheapest computer case. This case good for Micro-ATX motherboard. ๐Ÿ˜€

This is the motherboard. We tried to choose something cheap yet reliable. There were two different AM3+ boards. ASUS and Gigabyte motherboards, and we liked ASUS motherboard better, but we had to choose the Gigabyte. We couldnโ€™t take the ASUS motherboard because it was a full size motherboard. (Our case is too small for the ASUS board)

Gigabyte Geforce GTX 750. Think we spent too much money for the video card. Since the computer is for work, we were going to buy a video card under $100 dollars, but we decided to spend $40 โ€“ $50 more dollars for graphics in case when we play game โ€ฆ ๐Ÿ™‚

This is the processor. The main reason that we chose AMD FX 6300 six-core CPU over Intel processor is the value. Our budget was tight, and we needed higher than average performance since we use Adobe. This processor performs really good for the price. For the same price, you can only get Intel i3 dual-core processor. Intelโ€™s single-core performance is faster than AMDโ€™s but this one performs lot better when it comes to multitasking because of those 4 more cores.

This is our RAM. It is Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB DDR3. We just picked this because it was the cheapest memory. This memory is covered with a heatsink for better over-clocking. Looks nice. ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

Hard drive was very important for us since we have lot to save. Instead of regular Western Digital HDD (blue series?), for better reliability, we chose Western Digital Enterprise Class. It is more durable than typical HDD. We could go for 1TB, but since our budget was tight, Here we purchased 500GB.

The power supply is one of very important computer component. We do not prefer Cooler Master PSU, but we decided to purchase this because it had more certificates than other power supplies at same price range. If we had more money, we would go for Seasonic power supply. Seasonic makes really good quality power supply units, but Cooler Master will be okay since the machine is not for hard core gaming.

Yes. Cooler Master Hyper T2 ! We like to keep the system cool. This is only $25 dollars, but we know that this thing works ! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ It is one of our favorite CPU fan. It normally drops extra 10C ~ 30C than the stock fan. You can expect a better result with a high grade thermal paste.

This is just a typical LG DVD drive. ๐Ÿ™‚

Ready to build the new desktop !

Okay. Here is the motherboard. Letโ€™s install the CPU first.

The AMD FX-6300 Six-Core CPU installed. Letโ€™s install memory.

Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB DDR3 memory installed! Letโ€™s put some thermal paste on the Processor.

Thermal compound applied. Looks good. ๐Ÿ˜€ Letโ€™s install the big Cooler Master T2 fan on it.

Cooler Master T2 fan installed! Ready for cooling! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

Motherboard installed in the Antec Mini-Tower case. No extra space. This case seems really small. If you are looking to have a big video card with many hard drives, this is not the case for you. This is good if you are looking for a compact case for limited room space.

Here is the Cooler Master Elite 550W power supply ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

Gigabyte Geforce GTX 750. Look at the huge fan. Itโ€™s taking almost 60% of the whole video card. Looks like we donโ€™t have to worry about over heating.

Cooler Master power, Gigabyte Geforce, WD hard drive, and LG DVD drive installed. It is always hard to organize the wires. Letโ€™s organize the wires, and close the case cover.

Finished! Here is the back panel of the custom desktop.

Letโ€™s put stickers too ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

It is working fine. ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ Now, time to install operating system.

Thank you for reading. We will work harder with this new custom desktop!
