In order to stop the message, you will need to turn off two Windows 10 services: “Problem Reports and Solutions Control Panel Support” & “Windows Error Reporting Service”. By turning off these two services, the critical error message will go away when you first start the Windows 10.

  1. Turn on your computer, and wait until you see the critical error: start menu and cortana are’t working message.
  2. When you see the message, press “Ctrl“+”Alt“+”Del” keys together at the same time.
  3. Click “Task Manager“.
  4. Click “File” and click “Run new task“.
  5. Type “msconfig” and hit enter.
  6. This will run Windows System Configuration.
  7. Click “Services” tab.
  8. Find those the following services: “Problem Reports and Solutions Control Panel Support” & “Windows Error Reporting Service
  9. Uncheck these two services, then click “OK“.
  10. Restart your computer.

After restarting the computer, you will notice that there will be no more critical error: start menu and cortana aren’t working.
