Compaq CQ58 screen (LCD) replacement – March 22, 2017

Compaq CQ58 screen replacement | Today, we have replaced LCD (or screen) for Compaq CQ58 laptop (15.6″). When our customer brought the laptop in, the screen was working, but there were lot of red tinted pixels on the laptop screen. We thought the culprit was a screen (LCD) cable which connects the Compaq CQ58 screen (LCD) and the motherboard, but the cable was okay. After checking CQ58 screen (LCD) cable, we did connect an external 22″ monitor to it, and everything looked great. Now, we know what the problem is. It is the LCD of Compaq CQ58. Since this laptop was purchased in Europe, we had to order the accurate part from Europe, and we had to wait about a week for shipping.. We just could use any 15.6″ screen that has a same type of connector, but we did not want any risk! Here is the spec of HP Compaq CQ58 laptop model: 1.4GHz AMD E1-1200 processor, Radeon HD 7310 graphics, 15.6-inch glossy, 1366×768, LCD, Windows 8 (64-bit), 320GB HDD (5400rpm), 2GB DDR3, 8X DVD±RW drive, HDMI, VGA connectors, 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, Built-in mic, 3.5mm line-in, 3.5mm line-out (headphone), 3x USB 2.0, SD/SDHC/MMC card reader, 65W power consumption, 47Wh, Lithium-Ion, removable battery, 376x247x33mm size, 2.3Kg weight.

Compaq CQ58 Screen Replacement Starts

First of all, you will need to remove two more Phillip screws on the top-right and the top-left corners. After that, remove total of four Phillip screws from the bottom-right, and the bottom-left. Do not try to separate the Compaq CQ58 screen from the back frame at this point. The web cam cable and the LCD cable are one cable, and the thin cable for web cam, is glued on the back frame, disconnect the web cam cable first!!! After that, Compaq CQ58 LCD will be released from the back panel.

Replacing the damaged LCD with a new LCD

More Phillip screws to remove. Total of 6 screws from the side metal frame that is holding the Compaq CQ58 screen. After removing all, there is no more screw to remove. Now, the LCD should be free. Gently place the LCD on the laptop keyboard, and remove the LCD cable from back of the damaged LCD. It is glued and taped, so be careful.

Here is our new LCD from Europe. This is LG! LG makes the best quality LCD. Nice! Before we assemble, let’s connect the LCD to the laptop, and do a test. It is clear and sharp. We are now good to re-assemble the LCD section.

We have secured the LCD connector with a high temperature resistant tape to avoid loose connection which may cause variety of screen problems.
