The Macbook Air was generating an error message constantly. “Your computer is low on memory: To free up some memory, please close a few applications. As soon as we saw that message, the first thing we’ve checked was the amount of RAM, and we couldn’t believe because the Macbook Air had  8GB of RAM which was a plenty. Right after that, we checked all the programs that are running in the background. It was okay, then we did some research on Google, and found out that it is more like a virus(malware, adware, scareware, phishing, scam…) When you are infected by this nasty malware, you will see your computer is low on memory message all day long!! It is also hard to get rid of it because it’s got random file & folder name. In many cases, it is impossible to remove the malware files and folders because they are running in the background secretly, and when you terminate the program in the activity monitor, it restarts the program right away with different PID, but we have the solution! 01. CALIBRATION

Once you purchased your Mac, you need to do Calibration, because your battery cells are not fully activated. In order to fully activate the battery cells, Plug it in and fully charge your MacBook. When the battery indicates shows 100%, we recommend you to keep charging for 1-2 hours more. > When it’s done, use your MacBook without plugin until your Mac shuts down it self. > When your Mac is turned off, leave your Mac for 1 hour so the battery can completely drain. > Fully charge your Mac again!

Above steps are how to perform battery calibration. The reason for calibration is to use all ranges of the battery cells. When it’s fully activated, you can experience more battery life on your New MacBook Pro with Touch Bar!

02. SAFARI

We recommend Safari web browser instead of Chrome on Mac OS. Safari is well optimized for Mac OS. On the other hand, Chrome consumes a lot of battery life on Mac OS for some reason. Seems like Chrome web browser is not well optimized on Mac OS. In fact, It lasted about 9 – 11 hours in Safari use and 5 – 6 hours in Chrome use.

03. SCREEN BRIGHTNESS

Adjusting brightness of the screen is well known method to increase the battery life on most electronic devices. Yes  as you know, screen brightness is an important factor for the battery life. We recommend to dim the brightness to maximize battery life. It helps a lot to save battery life.

04. iTUNES or QUICKTIME PLAYER

Have you experienced that the battery life is too short when watching movie on your Mac? Then try to watch movie with quicktime player. Your movie time will last more than 10 hours! Try to use iTunes when listening music. iTunes and Quicktime Player are the best music and video player on Mac OS. They are well optimized on Mac operating system and works pretty well!

05. UPDATE SOFTWARE

Sometimes new version of the updates could be worse than the previous version. But if you are facing a problem with the current software version, why don’t you try to update to the latest version. Try to update! It could resolve the problem!

06. SMC RESET

For some people, resetting SMC resolves the battery issue. the SMC has the controls and manages battery, fans, backlight keyboard, and etc. When the SMC has problems, some of the hardware parts might not be working properly.

1. Please make sure that your MacBook shut off completely. Go to Apple Logo > Shut Down.

2. When your Mac is turn off, Press and Hold SHIFT + CONTROL + OPTION + POWER BUTTON (The Touch ID is a power Button.) for 10 Seconds.

3. After 10 seconds, you can release all keys.

4. Now Press the Power button (your Touch ID) to turn on!

07. APPLE SHOP

It could be a hardware issue or faulty battery. If all of the above method didn’t work and if it’s been only few days since it’s purchased, we recommend to request refund or exchange your New MacBook Pro.

Macbook (pro) turns off halfway through startup…!

Do you see the Apple logo, and a loading indicator (bar), and after a while, does your Macbook shuts down itself? If you have the same problem like us, you should keep read this blog post. Today, one of our customer brought in a Macbook Pro A1278 model. The customer told us that she did not really use this macbook that much, but one day, it started to turn off itself during booting. We powered it up, and we saw the apple logo with a loading bar (indicator), then it turned it off itself without any beep sound or any warning messages. First, we though it could be the Macbook battery, but the battery was fully charged, and it was okay. So… we did a research on Google… It looks like so many people with Macbook have the same problem like our customer. No matter which Macbook, we found out that many people have the same problem! In conclusion, most of them are caused by corrupted system files, and faulty hard drive. This means, we will need to repair the corrupted system files, or maybe we can format the existing hard drive, then install Mac OS again, or when there are physical damages to the actual hard drive, we will need to replace the existing hard drive. Anyways, here is what to do when your Macbook turns off itself during booting.

How to fix Macbook (or Macbook Pro) shut down during boot

1. Disk Utility to repair disk

First of all, you can try the built in disk utility to analysis your hard drive and to repair it when it has problems. You do not need any tools! Turn on your Macbook. Press and hold “Command” + “R” keys at the same time, and hold it until your Macbook triggers the Mac OS X Utilities. See how it looks like with a picture:

Click “Disk Utility” to open disk utility provided by OS X. Once you click it, the first thing you need to do is to select the right disk or partition on the left side menu. Choose a hard drive or a partition, then click “Verify Disk”. If there are problems detected, you can click “Repair Disk” button to repair any existing errors on the selected hard disk. After finished, restart your Macbook.

2. Format and re-install Macbook OS (Caution: You will loose all data)

If the repair was not successful, you can try to format the current hard drive, and re-install OS X. You can open OS X Utilities again, and click Re-install OS X. This built-in OS X installation app will download the right OS X operating system, and therefore, you don’t need a Macbook OS X disk for it. Depends on your internet speed, the estimated time of installation varies. Always, plug the power cord to void your Macbook being shutdown due to a low battery during the installation process. If you need to backup, you need to remove the hard drive from your Macbook, and you need to transfer files to a USB or an external hard drive.

3. Replace the existing hard drive, and re-install OS X

Remove the existing hard drive from your Macbook, and put a new hard drive. Depends on your Macbook model, disassembly method varies, but typically by removing the bottom plate will give you the access to your hard drive. Make sure about the size of your hard drive (like 500GB, 1TB…) and buy the right size for you. Always remove the battery connector first, and remove the hard drive connector. After putting a new hard drive, you can re-install Mac OS X.

Today we are going to help you to remove Spigot extension on Mac. Spigot is known as a hijacker and what it does is to block you to access the settings of the web browser. What happens when your Mac is infected by Spigot malware, firstly you are unable to change your homepage, secondly, you will get a lot of junk popup ads on the screen, thirdly, many possibilities that your Mac could be exposured to more viruses and malware through those junk ads.

How did Spigot penetrate into my Mac system then? Typically, most malware like Spigot comes from two different paths. Please be careful when browsing unknown sites. The reason why is that most cases malware come from ads banner. You might seen a banner that says “Click Free Anti Virus For Free” while web surfing, and this kind of banner might bring a problem into the system when clicking by a mistake.

Another path that causes a malware problem is a third party program. Recently, third party software comes as bundles with a software that you’d like to install. You should know that third party programs are installing with a software. And some third party programs that are installed without user’s knowing causes an issue. Now we are going to share how to remove Spigot hijacker and how to protect your Mac from those malware.

Remove Spigot Extension

The first thing we are going to do is uninstalling Spigot Extension from Safari. Since there is a lot people using Chrome web browser, we are going to share how to uninstall an extension from Chrome as well.

In Safari, Go to Preferences > Go to Extensions > Find Spigot extension and uninstall it. The name of extensions might be different. Try to uninstall all the extension that has a word “search”. Extension that has a word “search” has a possibility it’s a malware.

After uninstalling the extension, you need to set the homepage. Go to General > Change the homepage URL.

In Chrome, click on three dots icon and go to Settings > Extension in the left pane > Find all the extensions that has a word “search” and remove.

After removing the extension, go back to settings and set the homepage. You will see Open a specific page for set of pages under On Startup category. Check to the box and click set pages to change the homepage.

Scan with Malwarebytes

Even if uninstalled spigot extension from a web browser, there might be some caches and old data regarding Spigot left. In order to delete spigot completely, we are going to scan the system with Malwarebytes software. Malwarebytes is a software that protects your system from viruses and malwares. Download Malwarebytes using this link. Once installed, start to scan your Mac system. After it’s done, you will get remove selected items button. Click that button and restart your Mac.

Install AD Blocker

One of the best way to prevent malware infection is to install ad blocker extension on your web browser. It will block all popup ads. Open Safari and select Safari Extensions. Soon you will see many extensions. try to find out ad blocker extension and install it.

In Chrome web browser > Go to Settings > Extensions > Scroll down and click on Get More Extensions > Type ad blocker in the search field. Choose the ad blocker extension that you want and install it.

Blocking Pop-ups

Additionally, you can also block popups without installing extensions. Go to Safari > Preferences > Security > Check to Block pop-up windows.

If you are using Chrome, please follow the steps below to block pop-up ads. Go to Settings > Scroll down and click Show Advanced Settings to see more options. > Content Settings under Privacy > Under Pop-ups, check to Do not allow any sites to show pop-ups.

03. After uninstalling the extension, you need to set the homepage. Go to General Tab and set the homepage that you want.

Chrome Web Browser

01. Open Chrome web browser > Click the three dots on the top right corner. > Settings > Extension > Select Searchme extension and uninstall it.

02. If you successfully uninstalled the extension, you need to set the homepage. Go to settings > Under the On startup category, Check the box to “open a specific page or set of pages” and Click the set pages. Once you clicked the Set Pages, a windows will come up on the screen. Type the URL (ex. www.google.ca) and click OK.

02. Scan your Mac

Even if you uninstalled the searchme extension from a web browser, there may be old caches and datas related to searchme hijack. In order to delete searchme caches and datas completely, we recommend to scan your Mac through Malwarebytes. Malwarebytes is an anti virus software and what it does is to find out and deletes virus, malware, hijacks, and other harmful programs. Here is the site link to download Malwarebytes.

Try to download free version and install. When the Malwarebytes is successfully installed on the system, run it and scan your system. There might be bunch of other harmful programs are found.

How do I protect my Macbook from hijack programs and other junk softwares?

Typically, hijack programs come from a advertisement banner on an driver download site and a third party software. If you have experienced to download a software driver, you may ever seen an advertisement that says “DOWNLOAD THIS FOR FREE!”. What happen when you click this kind of advertisement banner is that it’s automatically starting to download a software. Most of people don’t notice that it’s automatically downloading a software. Check your Download folder. You will notice that some files that you’ve never downloaded before.

There are some good extensions to prevent browser infection issues. These extensions are protecting your web browser by blocking all ads and popups. Open Safari > Safari Extensions. > There are may adblocker extensions. Choose that you want and install. These adblockers will protect your web browser from junk ads.

Another possibility that causes browser infection problem is a third party software. Typically, a third party software is installed with a software. Recently, you should look careful what softwares comes with together when installing a program. There is the way to prevent virus infection from a third party software. Fortunately, third party softwares can’t be installed by itself. They always need an user’s permission to be installed.

When installing an unknown program or if you are doubting the program you are installing, please look carefully the installing process. There will be a checkbox that has been marked already. Check carefully which check boxes are marked and if it’s marked to the program that you don’t want to install, uncheck the box.

Do you have some issues with the wifi connection on your Macbook? can’t connect to Internet? Internet is too slow? There are many reasons that causes the wifi problems. One of the major internet connection issues is a router. Most WiFi connection issues usually are occurred on a router. Therefore, when you are in trouble with network connection, restarting a router could solve the issue. What else could be a cause of the problem? It could be configurations of the system. For example, sometimes there is a case that the Airplane Mode is enabled. If this mode is turned on, you are unable to access internet connection. There are many other reasons for network issues on Macbook Pro.

01. Check the router is working fine.

A router could be one of the causes. In order to check if a router is working properly, try to open web browser on other computers or mobile devices. If Internet is working on other devices, that means the router is not the not that has a problem. But If Internet is not working on other devices either, it’s likely the router. In this case, you need to restart the router. restarting means not resetting a router. Some people reset a router. Resetting router will bring you more works to do. Just plug it out and let it sit for 5 minutes, and then plugin it in again. Wait until the router is fully loaded and when it’s ready, open a web browser and see if it works.

02. Re-Connect WiFi

Try to disconnect and re-connect wifi connection. Perhaps, previous network settings might be the cause that occurs the network issues. Or did you change a router recently? If so, you need to remove the previous connection and re-connect to a new connection.

Step 01. Go to System Preferences. (Click the Apple icon that is located in the top left corner.)

Step 02. Select Network

03. Select Advanced.

04. Select your network and Click the Minus button to remove.

05. If you removed the old wifi connection, restart your Macbook and try to re-connect.

03. Renew DHCP

If your router is working ok, but can’t connect to WIFi? try to renew DHCP. Sometimes there could be ip address crash. When computers that has same ip address are in use at the same time, IP address crash issues could be occurred. In order to fix ip crash problems, we are going to get a new ip address.

Step 01. Go to Preferences. (Click the Apple icon, located in the top left corner.)

02. In Preferences, Find Network and Click on it.

03. Click on Advanced button in the network configuration windows.

04. Under TCP/IP tab, Click the Renew DHCP Lease button. Check if you are able to connect to WiFi.

04. Diagnostic Network

Try the diagnostic network option that the Apple provides. Diagnostic Network option provides a feature that finds the problem and re-configurate the settings automatically. Sometimes it helps to resolve the network issues.

Step 01. Apple Icon > System Preferences

Step 02. Select Network in the system preferences.

03. Select Assist Me

04. Once you selected Assist me, you will get a popup windows that is asking “Do you need assistance setting up a new network connection or solving a network problem?”. Select Diagnostics button.

05. Select the network port configuration type that you are using and click continue.

06. Select your network and Continue.

07. Select Allow to progress the next step. Now it will automatically diagnostic the network system configuration and try to repair it.

05. PRAM Reset

Maybe you are having wifi issues due to Macbook system corruption. Try to reset the PRAM. Resetting PRAM might resolve the network problems. In order to reset PRAM on Macbook Pro:

Step 01. Make sure that your Macbook Pro is completely shut down.

Step 02. Press and Hold Down Option + Command (⌘) + P + R.

Step 03. Turn on your Macbook while holding the keys (Option + Command (⌘) + P + R).

Step 04. Keep holding those keys (Option + Command (⌘) + P + R) until your MacBook restarts. You can release all keys when you hear the second startup sound.

Scan with Malwarebytes

• Malwarebytes works pretty well on removing malwares such as a third party software. Go to this website MALWAREBYTES ANTI-VIRUS and download the free version. There will be a FREE DOWNLOAD button on the homepage. Click the download button and install the malwarebytes.
• If you successfully installed the program, launch it and try to scan your computer. It will automatically remove all hijackers and even other harmful programs as well and reboot your computer.
• Did the scanning finish? Finished rebooting computer? Now we are going to reset your web browser.

Reset Chrome

We are going to reset Chome web browser. Reset means erase all data, caches, and history files. But bookmark won’t be removed. Please follow the instruction step by step.

01. Open the Chrome web browser.

02. In the top right corner, you will see three dots button. Click on it and settings.

03. Scroll down and you will see show advanced settings. Click this to see more advanced options.

04. Click on Clear browsing data.

05. Check all boxes! Click Clear browsing data.

06. Now go back to the Settings again and scroll down to the bottom. Click Reset settings button.

07. Close the Chrome web browser and re-open the web browser. Check if you can change the homepage of the web browser and any other settings.

Reset Safari

We are going to reset Safari web browser. Even if you reset Safari, your book mark won’t be deleted.

01. Open Safari web browser. Click Safari on the top and Go to Preferences

02. Go to Privacy category and click on Remove All Website Data.

03. It’s all done! Close your web browser and open again. Check if you are able to change the homepage and other settings.

Reset Firefox

01. Open Firefox web browser. Type about:support in the URL as the image shown below.

02. Soon you will get firefox setting page. Now click on Refresh Firefox button.

03. When it’s done, you will get success screen. Now close the Firefox web browser and open it again. Try to change homepage and other settings. If you are able to change settings of the web browser, the hijacker virus successfully has been removed.

Hopefully, all hijacker issues has been resolved by the methods above.

Is Airdrop not working well on your Macbook or iPhone or iPad? There are many reasons it is not working properly. It might be your network or configuration problems. 01. Check if WiFi is working

• Try to open Google Chrome or Safari web browser to check your WiFi device is working fine. If your web browser is working fine, that means your router is OK!

02. Check if Airplane Mode is enabled

• On your iPhone or iPad or iPod, Swipe up the screen from the bottom and see the AirPlane icon. Airplane Mode should be disabled to use AirDrop. Please Turn off this option.

03. Turn On WiFi & Bluetooth

Please check if you turned on WiFI & Bluetooth functions on your device. Here is how to check.

How to turn on WiFi & Bluetooth on iPhone, iPad, iPod

• Swipe up the screen from the bottom with a finger tip. You will get this option. Please tab the Wifi & Bluetooth icon to turn on.

On Macbook

• On the top right where the time is located, you will see WiFi and Bluetooth icon. Click on each icon and turn on.

04. Make the right setting

Please check the AirDrop option is enabled. If your AirDrop option set as airdrop receiving off, the AirDrop feature won’t functioning.

On iPhone & iPad & iPod

• Swipe Up the screen from the bottom. You will get this option soon. If AirDrop is turned off, try to make it enabled. Tab on it and choose Everyone.

On Macbook

• Go to Finder > AirDrop in the left menu > Set the Allow me to discovered by Everyone.

05. Update

• Check your Mobile iOS version is up to date. Go to Settings > General > Software Update > Tab Install Now. Try to update iOS to the latest version and see if it works.

06. Restart your phone

• Try to reboot your iPhone. Make sure your phone is turned off completely and turn it on again. It might resolve the issue.

07. Reset Network Configuration

• Try to reset the network settings on iPhone or iPad or iPod. Here is how to reset the network configuration. Go to Settings > General > Scroll down to very bottom and tab on Reset > Reset Network Settings. After reset, you need to retype your wifi password to connect network.

1. Prompt Mode (Terminal)

Step 01 Please shut down your Macbook.

Step 02. We are going to boot into recovery mode to use terminal. Turn on and press and hold down COMMAND + R keys immediately until the recovery mode comes up on the screen.

Step 03. If you have the recovery mode screen, Go to Utilities > Terminal.

Step 04. Type the following command in the terminal: system_profiler SPExtensionsDataType > ~/Desktop/kextList.txt

Step 05. Open kextList.txt file and Press the COMMAND + F keys at the same time to get the search field.

Step 06. In the blank field, type Obtained from: Not Signed and copy the destination to the .kext file to a list for use later

Step 07. Select Next to cycle through all of them, for example: /System/Library/Extensions/filename.kext

Step 08. Now navigate to /System/Library/Extensions. Find and Remove all unsigned kext files.

Step 09. Restart your Macbook and check if it works.

2. PRAM(NVRAM) Reset

Step 01. Please make sure that your Macbook is completely turned off.

Step 02. Press and Hold Down Option + Command + P + R Keys together and turn your Macbook on.

Step 03. Keep Holding Down until you hear the second startup sound. You can release keys after hearing the second startup sound.

PRAM RESET ON LATE 2016 MACBOOK PRO

Step 01. Please turn off your Mac.

Step 02. Press and Hold Down Option + Command + P + R Keys together and turn your Macbook on.

Step 03. Keep holding down the keys for 20 seconds.

3. FSCK Check

Step 01. You need to boot into Recovery Mode. Please shut down or restart your macbook and once you turn in on, press and hold COMMAND + R keys together and wait until you get the recovery mode screen.

Step 02. Please Select Disk Utility option.

Step 03. Click on First Aid. It will try to fix your hard drive issues.

Step 04. Once the FSCK(file system checking) is finished, restart Macbook.

Reset WIFI Configuration

Step 01. Go to FINDER

Step 02. Go to Top Menu. Navigate to GO > Go to folder

Step 03. Type /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ in the blank field.

Step 04.You should get some files in folder. Now Find and Delete the following listed files below:

• com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
  
• com.apple.network.identification.plist
  
• com.apple.wifi.message-tracer.plist
  
• NetworkInterfaces.plist
  
• preferences.plist

ROBOOT ROUTER

Step 01. If you successfully finished clearing the files, now we need to reboot a router.

Step 02. Just keep in mind that we are not resetting a router. Just rebooting. Do Not Reset your router. All settings and information on your router will be terminated. Just unplug the power adapter for your router and leave it for 1 minute and plug the power back.

Now If your router has successfully reboot, then restart your Macbook as well.
